The Governor-General of Australia, General The Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), who is on a State Visit to Singapore, called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana today. President Tan and Mrs Mary Tan also hosted a State Banquet at the Istana in honour of the Governor-General and Lady Lynne Cosgrove.
During their meeting, Governor-General Cosgrove and President Tan reaffirmed the excellent ties between Singapore and Australia. They noted that the signing of the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in June 2015 had taken bilateral relations to the next level and strengthened political, economic, defence and people-to-people ties between both countries. They also discussed bilateral cooperation in various areas such as education, military and counter-terrorism. Both leaders also welcomed the various initiatives that had been organised in Singapore and Australia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Governor-General Cosgrove will meet Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong tomorrow.
