To commemorate its 70th Anniversary this year, the United Nations is organising a “Turn the World UN Blue” initiative on UN Day, which falls on 24 October. UN Member States have been invited to light up their landmarks in UN Blue.
Singapore is pleased to support this initiative by lighting up our iconic “Supertrees” at the Gardens by the Bay Park. They will be lit in “UN Blue” from 6.45pm to midnight to mark this occasion.
On the 50th anniversary of our UN membership, our participation in “Turn the World UN Blue” is a small but symbolic way to show Singapore’s support for the UN. We join more than 30 countries around the world in this celebration.

Singapore is pleased to participate in the global “Turn the World UN Blue” initiative to celebrate UN Day and the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s UN membership.
Six prominent landmarks in Singapore - “Supertrees” at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Bandstand, National Gallery Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay and Changi Airport Terminal 1 – are taking part in this celebration by lighting up in blue – the official colour of the UN - from 6.45pm till midnight. These well-known landmarks are significant symbols of Singapore’s history, culture and development. We are especially pleased to highlight the light up of the iconic Bandstand at the heart of Singapore’s Botanic Gardens. The Singapore Botanic Gardens was recently conferred the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site in July this year.
As a small state, Singapore firmly believes in the importance of a strong, effective and rules-based multilateral system. Joining the “Turn the World UN Blue” initiative reaffirms our continued support for the UN and its mission to promote peace, security, international cooperation and sustainable development.
