The Indonesian Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly, Taufiq Kiemas, passed away this evening at the Singapore General Hospital.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong telephoned the late Speaker Taufiq's wife, former President of Indonesia Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri, earlier this evening to express condolences on the passing of her late husband. Prime Minister Lee expressed his sadness at the late Speaker's passing, and said that his thoughts were with Ibu Megawati and her family.
The Ministry wishes to express its condolences to Ibu Megawati and family, the People's Consultative Assembly, and the Government and people of Indonesia.
