        Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister for Home Affairs, and Minister-in-charge of the Civil Service Teo Chee Hean, who is currently on an official visit to Myanmar at the invitation of Vice President Dr Sai Mauk Kham, called on President U Thein Sein in Nay Pyi Taw today. 

        President U Thein Sein and DPM Teo expressed satisfaction with the warm and longstanding relationship between Singapore and Myanmar.  In particular, they discussed on-going human resource development initiatives, such as the Singapore-Myanmar Vocational Training Institute, as well as the growing economic interactions between Singapore and Myanmar.  Yesterday evening, DPM Teo and Vice President Dr Sai Mauk Kham also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to renew the Singapore‑Myanmar Technical Cooperation Programme for Myanmar’s civil servants. 

        Earlier today, DPM Teo also separately called on Speaker of the Union Parliament Thura U Shwe Mann and Chairperson of the Committee for Rule of Law, Peace and Tranquillity in the Myanmar Union Parliament Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and discussed developments in Myanmar, including the Myanmar General Elections due later this year.  DPM Teo also met Union Minister for Home Affairs Lieutenant General Ko Ko and agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the Ministries of Home Affairs and its agencies, including in the areas of transnational crime, cybersecurity, drug-related issues, and urban search and rescue.

        Tomorrow, DPM Teo will witness the official opening ceremonies of the Yangon branches of OCBC Bank and United Overseas Bank (UOB), before returning to Singapore.
