MFA Press Statement: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan's Meetings in Washington D.C., United States of America, 21 March 2017

    Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan is visiting Washington D.C. from 21 to 23 March 2017.  Minister Balakrishnan met US National Security Advisor Lieutenant General H R McMaster on 21 March 2017.  During the meeting, both sides affirmed the robust and mutually beneficial bilateral partnership between Singapore and the US.  Minister Balakrishnan and Lieutenant General McMaster also exchanged views on regional and international developments, and underscored the importance of the US’ continued commitment to deepening its engagement of the Asia-Pacific region.

    Minister Balakrishnan also had separate meetings with members of Congress including Co-Chair of the Congressional ASEAN Caucus Representative Ann Wagner (R-Missouri) and Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska).  During the meetings, both sides discussed the excellent state of bilateral relations.  Minister Balakrishnan welcomed Representative Wagner’s efforts to deepen the US’ engagement of ASEAN, in light of the 40^th anniversary of ASEAN-US relations this year.
