MFA Press Statement: Introductory Visit to Singapore by Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Jose Rene D. Almendras, 12 to 13 april 2016

            Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Jose Rene D. Almendras made an introductory visit to Singapore from 12 to 13 April 2016 at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

            Secretary Almendras called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 12 April 2016, and also called on and was hosted to breakfast by Minister Balakrishnan on 13 April 2016.  Secretary Almendras updated PM Lee and Minister Balakrishnan on the developments in the Philippines.  Both sides reaffirmed the longstanding and warm relations between Singapore and the Philippines.  They noted the strong people-to-people links and hope to see such links further strengthened.  PM Lee and Minister Balakrishnan also had good discussions with Secretary Almendras on regional issues, including developments in ASEAN and the South China Sea.

            Secretary Almendras was also hosted to dinner by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu on 12 April 2016.
