Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan called on Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith this morning.  During both meetings, Minister Balakrishnan reaffirmed our warm and long-standing bilateral ties, and discussed possible areas for cooperation including investment promotion, enhancing regional connectivity, human resource development and sustainable water management.  Prime Minister Thongloun also expressed appreciation for the good work done by Singapore volunteers in Laos.  Both Foreign Ministers jointly witnessed the signing of the codeshare agreement between SilkAir and Lao Airlines after their meeting.

During Minister Balakrishnan's visit, he also met Chairperson of the Committee for External Relations of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Sounthone Xayachack.  Minister Balakrishnan also hosted lunch for Chair of Foreign Affairs Committee in the National Assembly Prof Dr Eksavang Vongvichit, Chairman of Planning, Finance and Audit Committee in the National Assembly Dr Vilayvong Bouddakham, and Minister to the Prime Minister's Office Alounkeo Kittikhoun.
