Your Excellency,
On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Singapore, I offer our condolences on the passing of Dr Gyula Horn.
Dr Horn was a visionary leader who helped to bring down the Iron Curtain in 1989. He played a key role in Hungary's transition to a market economy, and in preparing Hungary for entry into NATO and the EU.
I was honoured to have met Dr Horn when he visited Singapore in 1997, and deeply appreciate Dr Horn's valuable contributions to Singapore-Hungary relations. He will be missed.

Dear Excellency,
It is with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of Dr Gyula Horn. I had the privilege of meeting him when he made an official visit to Singapore in April 1997.
Dr Horn was a true statesman who played an instrumental role in the fall of Communism in Europe. As Prime Minister, he undertook bold reforms to transform Hungary into a market economy and shaped his country's developments. He will be remembered for the strength of his convictions and his commitment to serving his country.
