MFA Press Statement: Call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong by the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Ms Noeleen Heyzer

The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Ms Noeleen Heyzer, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this morning. Mr Lee congratulated Ms Heyzer, the first Singaporean woman to hold the senior rank of Under-Secretary-General in the UN system, on her appointment and wished her success in her work. During the call, Ms Heyzer briefed Mr Lee on the plans and priorities of ESCAP, and its relations with key countries in the region. They also discussed how ESCAP could contribute to the development of countries in the Asia-Pacific region and other international issues such as climate change.
