Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Koumura called on Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo at the Shangri-La Hotel on 22 July 2008. During the call, both Minister Yeo and Foreign Minister Koumura reaffirmed the strong ties between the two countries. Foreign Minister Koumura took the opportunity to announce the launch of the website of the Japan Creative Centre in Singapore; a move which was welcomed by Minister Yeo. Both Ministers also exchanged views on the recent developments within ASEAN as well as the political situation in Northeast Asia.

Foreign Minister Koumura is in Singapore to attend meetings held in conjunction with the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting including the 15th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) from 22-24 July 2008.
