MFA Press Statement: Appointment of Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, 17 December 2014

              The Government has appointed Mr T Jasudasen as Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He will be resident in Singapore.

               Mr Jasudasen was recently appointed as Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the African Union.  Mr Jasudasen was High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Iceland and Ireland) from August 2011 to August 2014, and to Malaysia from June 2006 to July 2011.  Mr Jasudasen also served as Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar from November 2004 to May 2006, and to the French Republic (with concurrent accreditation to Portugal, Spain and Israel) from July 1997 to September 2004.

               Mr Jasudasen graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Singapore in 1977.  He obtained a Diploma in Public Administration from the École Nationale d'Administration in Paris, France in 1984.

               Mr Jasudasen was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2011 and the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1990.  He was also conferred the "Palmes Académiques" in 2002 and the "Légion d'Honneur" in 2004 by the French Government.  In October 2010, the Sultan of Pahang (Malaysia) conferred on Mr Jasudasen the "Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang" which carries the title of "Dato".  Mr Jasudasen received the Honorary Freedom of the City of London award in September 2013.

               Mr Jasudasen is married to Patricia Jasudasen. They have a son and twin daughters.

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

               Mr T Jasudasen was recently appointed as Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the African Union.

               Mr T Jasudasen was born in 1952. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws, (Honours) from the University of Singapore in 1977.  He later graduated in Public Administration from the École Nationale d’Administration in Paris (ENA), France in 1984.

               Mr Jasudasen first joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977.  He served as Second Secretary and subsequently as First Secretary in Singapore Permanent Mission in New York from 1979 to 1981 and was Counsellor and Charge d’affaires from 1988 to 1990 in Singapore Embassy in Manila.  He was then cross-posted to Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur as Counsellor from 1991 to 1992 and Deputy High Commissioner and Minister-Counsellor from 1992 to 1994.  Upon his return to Headquarters, he served as Director to the ASEAN Directorate from 1994 to 1996 and Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate IV from 1996 to 1997. 

Mr Jasudasen was appointed as Ambassador to France, with concurrent accreditation to Portugal, Spain and Israel from 1997 to 2004; Ambassador to Myanmar from 2004 to 2006; and High Commissioner to Malaysia from 2006 to 2011.  He was appointed as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Iceland and Ireland in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from August 2011 to August 2014.

               Mr Jasudasen was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2011, the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 1990 and the Long Service Medal in 2000 by the Singapore Government. The French Government also decorated him twice, with the “Palmes Académiques” in 2002 and the “Légion d’Honneur” in 2004.

               The Sultan of Pahang (Malaysia) conferred upon him the “Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang” (DSAP) which carries the title of “Dato” in October 2010.

               Mr Jasudasen received the Freedom of the City of London in September 2013.
