The Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr George Yeo will host the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Meeting on 1 June 2010. The Meeting will be co-chaired by Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. Minister Yeo will also host a Welcome Dinner for the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and GCC on 31 May 2010 at the National Library where delegates will also visit the exhibition of "Rihlah - Arabs in Southeast Asia".
The GCC comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The 2nd ASEAN-GCC Ministerial Meeting follows the first full-fledged ASEAN-GCC Ministerial Meeting that took place in Manama, Bahrain in June 2009, and demonstrates the growing strength of the ASEAN-GCC relationship. The meeting is expected to endorse a 2-year Plan of Action aimed at bolstering closer cooperation and maintaining the positive momentum in ASEAN-GCC relations. A separate Joint Press Statement will be issued after the Ministerial Meeting.
The ASEAN and GCC Foreign Ministers will jointly pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 1 June 2010.
