President Tharman Shanmugaratnam inaugurated the Mexico-Singapore Business Forum on 2 December 2025.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam inaugurated the Mexico-Singapore Business Forum on 2 December 2025. Co-organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF), the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (COMCE), and the Mexican Business Coordinating Council (CCE), the forum attracted significant interest from the Mexican business community.
President Tharman highlighted the interest of Singapore companies in business opportunities in Mexico as it embarks on major expansions in ports and other infrastructure, and as Mexico grows in scale and sophistication as a manufacturing hub in the Americas. At the same time, Mexican companies will benefit from using Singapore as a trusted gateway to Asia, including the fast-growing ASEAN market.
President Tharman underscored Singapore and Mexico’s shared commitment to an open, rules-based trading system. He encouraged businesses from both countries to diversify their networks in order to develop resilience in an uncertain global environment. They would find advantage in cross-regional economic arrangements, including the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Pacific Alliance-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (PASFTA), to seize new opportunities across our respective regions.
President Tharman also met over dinner with the Governors of Aguascalientes, Colima, Querétaro, and Yucatán, where they discussed the strategies each of their states was adopting to attract investments and achieve a transition towards energy security and low-carbon economies. They also highlighted opportunities for Singapore businesses in their states. He met earlier with prominent Mexican business leaders over breakfast, who discussed the opportunities for the two countries to collaborate, in sectors ranging from logistics and the energy transition to tertiary education.
To mark the growing cultural cooperation between Singapore and Mexico – and the critical role it plays in promoting understanding between the two countries – President Tharman will inaugurate The Acapulco–Manila Galleon: We Are the Pacific, a World Born of the Tropics exhibition at the Colegio de San Ildefonso on 3 December 2025.
President Tharman will depart Mexico City for New York City on 3 December 2025 to participate in a Group of Thirty (G30) plenary hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and chair a G30 Board of Trustees meeting.
