MFA Press Release: Congratulatory Messages from President Tony Tan Keng Yam to the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Bounnhang Vorachit and from PM Lee Hsien Loong to PM Thongloun Sisoulith

President Tony Tan Keng Yam has written a congratulatory letter to President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Bounnhang Vorachit on the latter’s appointment.  Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has also written to congratulate Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on his appointment.  The texts of President’s and PM’s congratulatory letters are appended.

                    On behalf of the people of Singapore, I would like to convey my heartiest congratulations on your successful appointment as the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

                    Singapore and the Lao PDR enjoy healthy relations in the areas of technical cooperation, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.  We also cooperate closely in ASEAN and at other international and regional fora.

                    I am confident that the Lao PDR will continue to progress under your leadership.  I look forward to working with you to further enhance relations between Singapore and the Lao PDR.

                    I wish Your Excellency every success as you embark on your new role as President of the Lao PDR.  I would also like to extend an invitation to you and Mrs Khammeuang Vorachit to visit Singapore at the earliest opportunity.

                    Singapore and the Lao PDR share warm ties underpinned by regular high-level exchanges and wide-ranging cooperation in areas including technical cooperation, education, cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. 

                    We also cooperate closely to promote regional peace and prosperity through multinational fora, particularly in ASEAN.  I am confident that under your leadership, the Lao PDR will continue to play a constructive role as ASEAN Chair in 2016 and further strengthen ASEAN unity and centrality.
