Dear President Mattarella,

                   I write to congratulate you on your election as President of the Italian Republic with resounding support from parliamentarians and regional officials.   

                    Relations between our two countries are warm and substantive.  Our economic ties are growing in strength.  Bilateral cooperation and exchanges are expanding in many different sectors, including education, scientific research and culture.  This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries.  I look forward to working with you in taking our bilateral relations to greater heights for the mutual benefit of our two peoples.

                  I wish you every success in your new appointment.
