Introductory Visit by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, 21 to 23 October 2026
His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, made his introductory visit to Singapore from 21 to 23 October 2026.
During his visit, His Royal Highness called on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong and was hosted to lunch by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. His Royal Highness also had meetings with Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu.
His Royal Highness and Singapore’s leaders reaffirmed the special and longstanding relationship between Singapore and Brunei, which is underpinned by the close ties between our leaders and peoples. They discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on ASEAN as well as regional and international developments.
As part of his programme, His Royal Highness attended an industry roundtable with Singapore companies, where participants exchanged perspectives on business and investment opportunities in both Singapore and Brunei. His Royal Highness also visited the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute where he engaged think tankers on regional and international developments, and was briefed on Singapore’s AI strategy by the Ministry of Digital Development and Information. His Royal Highness’ visit to the Special Operations Task Force is a reflection of the close defence ties between Singapore and Brunei.
The visit by His Royal Highness builds on the momentum of high-level exchanges between Singapore and Brunei, following Prime Minister Wong’s visit to Brunei to commemorate the 50th anniversary of bilateral defence relations in October 2026, the visit by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah for the 12th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders’ Programme, and Senior Minister Lee’s visit to Brunei in July 2026 to attend the 80th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
