Appointment of Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia and High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
The Government has appointed Mr Steven Pang Chee Wee as Singapore’s next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Mr Yip Wei Kiat as Singapore’s next High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
Mr Pang was the Director-General of the Consular Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore from 2020 to 2025.
Mr Pang joined the Singapore Foreign Service in 1999. He was Singapore’s Consul-General in Chengdu from 2017 to 2019. Mr Pang also served overseas in the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo and the Singapore Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. In the Ministry’s Headquarters, Mr Pang served in various capacities covering Japan, United States and International Organisations.
Mr Pang graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from The University of Tokyo in 1998, Japan, under the Monbusho Scholarship. He subsequently obtained his Master of Arts in International Policy from Stanford University, United States of America, in 2007.
Mr Pang was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) (Covid-19) and the Long Service Medal in 2022, and the Covid-19 Resilience Medal in 2023. He is married to Ms Lynn Cha Siew Yen and they have one daughter.
Mr Yip was Singapore’s Trade Representative in Taipei from 2020 to 2026.
Mr Yip joined the Singapore Foreign Service in 1993. He was Singapore’s Consul-General in the Singapore Consulate-General in Shanghai from 2008 to 2012, and Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and Non-Resident Ambassador to Mongolia from 2015 to 2019. Mr Yip also served overseas at the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok and the Singapore Embassy in Beijing. In the Ministry’s Headquarters, Mr Yip served in various capacities covering Malaysia, Brunei, Europe and Northeast Asia.
Mr Yip graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Honours) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom, in 1991 under the Singapore Government Scholarship. He obtained a Master of Arts in International Policy Studies from Stanford University, United States of America, under a Fulbright scholarship in 2001.
Mr Yip was awarded the Long Service Medal and the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2016 and 2021 respectively.
