Secretary of the National Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev, who is on a working visit to Singapore, called on and was hosted to lunch by Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean today. Senior Minister Teo and Secretary Patrushev discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in tackling common challenges such as terrorism, cybersecurity and transnational crime. They also had a wide-ranging exchange of views on regional and international issues.
 
Following the meeting, Senior Minister Teo and Secretary Patrushev witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Security Cooperation between the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Singapore and the Ministry of the Interior of the Russian Federation. The MOU signatories were Singapore Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs Josephine Teo, and State Secretary, Deputy Minister of the Russian Ministry of the Interior Igor Zubov. The MOU will allow both sides to explore further cooperation in various areas including dealing with transnational issues, such as extremist activity and drug trafficking.
