Appointment Of High Commissioner To New Zealand And Non-Resident Ambassador To The Kingdom Of Norway

The Government has appointed Mr Sudesh Maniar as Singapore’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, and Mr Tan Wah Yeow as Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway.

Mr Maniar will take up his appointment on 15 July 2019. He is currently Director-General of the Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Timor-Leste from 2015 to January 2019.

Mr Maniar joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997.  From 2002 to 2005, he served as Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations in Geneva.  Prior to that, Mr Maniar was Director of the International Economics Directorate from 2001 to 2002.  Upon his return from Geneva, Mr Maniar was re-appointed Director of the International Economics Directorate until 2006.  He was Director/Special Duties (International Economics) in 2007; and Director of the Public Affairs Directorate from 2009 to 2013.  From 2007 to 2009, Mr Maniar was seconded to the Asia-Europe Foundation as Director/Public Affairs.

Mr Maniar graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Honours) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom in 1986. He is married to Ms Loo Beng Du and they have a daughter.

  Mr Tan is a Board Member of the Public Utilities Board Singapore. He also serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of Gardens by the Bay, Sembcorp Marine Limited, M1 Limited, Mapletree Logistics Trust Management Limited, and Genting Singapore Limited.   From 1988 to 2017, Mr Tan was with KPMG, holding various leadership positions in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region. His last positions were Deputy Managing Partner of KPMG Singapore and Head of KPMG Asia Pacific Healthcare Practice.

  Mr Tan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom. He is married to Mdm Ng Bee Hoong and they have four children.

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Mr Tan Wah Yeow is a Board Member of the Public Utilities Board (PUB) Singapore. 

He also serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of Gardens by the Bay, Sembcorp Marine Limited, M1 Limited, Mapletree Logistics Trust Management Limited as well as Genting Singapore Limited. He was with KPMG and held various leadership positions with KPMG in Singapore and in the Asia Pacific Region, with his last positions being Deputy Managing Partner of KPMG Singapore and Head of KPMG Asia Pacific Healthcare Practice.

Mr Tan is also active in various charitable organisations.  He is a Non-Executive Director of VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer, and Executive Committee Member of MILK (Mainly I Love Kids). 

Mr Tan is married to Mdm Ng Bee Hoong and they have four children.
