Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al Thani, received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this morning. He called separately on President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who also hosted an Official Lunch. Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed had a new orchid hybrid, the Dendrobium Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, named in his honour.

President Halimah and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed the warm and longstanding ties between Qatar and Singapore. President Halimah welcomed the progress in bilateral cooperation in areas such as food security and innovation following her State Visit to Qatar in June 2023.

Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed had a good discussion on strengthening cooperation between Qatar and Singapore in areas such as energy, trade and investment, as well as counter-radicalisation. As small states, we share similar challenges and can learn from each other’s experience. They agreed that Singapore and Qatar should work closely together on strengthening the linkages between Southeast Asia and the Gulf. Both Prime Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international geopolitical developments.

Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in the areas of social development and family, education, water-related research, enterprise digitalisation and innovation, and commercial partnerships.
