Condolence Letters from Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan on the Floods in Malaysia and Typhoon Rai in the Philippines

           Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan has written to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Saifuddin Abdullah and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Teodoro L Locsin Jr. to express condolences in response to the tragic loss of lives and destruction caused by the floods in Malaysia and Typhoon Rai in the Philippines. The letters are appended.

            I am saddened by the tragic loss of lives and devastation caused by the floods in several parts of Malaysia. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and all Malaysians whose livelihoods have been affected.

            Singapore stands in solidarity with Malaysia during this difficult time. The Malaysian government is swiftly mounting relief efforts, and I am confident that the Malaysian people will overcome this crisis with strength and fortitude.

            Please accept my deepest condolences on the deaths, displacements and destruction wrought by Typhoon Rai in the Philippines from 16 to 17 December 2021.  It is distressing that so many families have lost their homes, livelihoods and loved ones, especially with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

            Singapore stands ready to provide any assistance required by the Philippines during this difficult time.  Our thoughts are with the people of the Philippines during this difficult time, and I wish the Philippines strength and fortitude to overcome this natural disaster.
