Mr. Alvin Tan is Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ministry of National Development (MND).
He is also a Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC and serves on the board of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
At MND, he is Minister-in-charge of the Municipal Services Office (MSO). His portfolio also includes urban planning, nature & biodiversity and animal welfare. He also oversees initiatives to enhance tech adoption in the built environment sector.
At MFA, he focuses on expanding Singapore's diplomatic and economic ties with the Americas and Africa, and Singapore’s hosting of ASEAN in 2027.
Mr. Tan previously served at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), covering tech and startups, tourism, advanced manufacturing and semiconductors. At the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), he was focusing on youths, cooperatives, interfaith relations, sports, arts & culture and heritage.
At MAS, he continues to support fintech, green finance, and financial talent growth.
Before public office, Mr. Tan held leadership roles at LinkedIn and Facebook, focusing on market growth, SME digitization, workforce data and online safety.
His earlier experience includes investment banking at Goldman Sachs, tech projects at the United Nations and international development at Oxfam.
Mr. Tan holds a First Class Honours in Economics from the University of Sydney and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University, where he was a Fellow at the Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs.
