Singapore's diplomatic relationships and recent highlights with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Overview

Singapore’s close relations with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) are underpinned by strong economic ties. In 2019, Hong Kong was Singapore’s 5th largest trading partner and total bilateral trade amounted to S$65.3 billion. As at 2018, it is also our 4th largest cumulative investment destination.

Both sides maintain close relations through frequent high-level exchanges and close working relationships between our government agencies. We also cooperate closely in functional areas through the Singapore-Hong Kong Civil Service Exchange Programme and the annual Singapore-Hong Kong Permanent Secretaries Exchange Programme.

2019

  • Senior Minister of State (Trade and Industry) Koh Poh Koon visited Hong Kong from 15 to 22 April 2019.

  • Minister (National Development) and Second Minister (Finance) Lawrence Wong visited Hong Kong from 13 to 18 May 2019.

  • HKSAR Secretary for the Environment Wong Kam-sing visited Singapore from 20 to 24 May 2019.

  • Deputy Prime Minister and Minister (Finance) Heng Swee Keat visited Hong Kong from 28 to 29 May 2019.

  • HKSAR Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan visited Singapore from 27 to 28 June 2019.

  • Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong visited Hong Kong from 9 to 10 July 2019.

2018

  • Head of Civil Service Leo Yip led a delegation of Permanent Secretaries to Hong Kong for the 6th Singapore-Hong Kong Permanent Secretaries Exchange Programme from 14 to 16 March.

  • Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) Ong Ye Kung visited Hong Kong from 22 to 25 April under the Sponsored Visitors Programme at the invitation of the Hong Kong government. 

  • Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong visited Hong Kong from 5 to 7 September.

  • Senior Minister of State (Environment and Water Resources)(Health) Amy Khor visited Hong Kong from 21 to 24 November.

  • HKSAR Secretary for Food and Health Professor Sophia Chan visited Singapore from 26 to 27 November.

  • Senior Minister of State (Trade and Industry)(Education)Chee Hong Tat visited Hong Kong from 2 to 5 December. 

  • HKSAR Under Secretary for Food and Health Dr Chui Tak-yi visited Singapore from 3 to 4 December.
