Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's Participation in the AI Safety Summit, 2 November 2023

02 November 2023

Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong will participate virtually in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Summit on 2 November 2023, at the invitation of British PM Rishi Sunak. The AI Safety Summit, organised by the United Kingdom (UK), is being held from 1 to 2 November 2023 at Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire, and brings together international governments, leading AI companies, civil society groups and experts in research to discuss the risks of AI, especially at the frontier of development, and how such risks can be mitigated through internationally coordinated action.

Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo is currently in the UK representing Singapore in person.

The UK’s invitation comes after the launch of the Singapore-UK Strategic Partnership by PM Lee and PM Sunak in September 2023, under which Singapore and the UK agreed to engage on and influence international standards, frameworks, and guidelines for critical and emerging technologies, including AI.

During the Summit, PM Lee will touch on Singapore’s practical, risk-based approach to AI development and deployment, as well as the importance of including diverse multistakeholders in this conversation and collaboration on AI safety.
