President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe is on a Working Visit to Singapore from 21 to 22 August 2023. President Wickremesinghe called on President Halimah Yacob on 21 August, and met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana on 22 August.
President Halimah and President Wickremesinghe affirmed the close friendship between Singapore and Sri Lanka anchored by strong people-to-people ties. They had a fruitful discussion covering food security, renewable energy, regional economic cooperation, amongst other issues.
Prime Minister Lee and President Wickremesinghe discussed ways to further strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation, including in trade and food security. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments. President Wickremesinghe provided an update on developments in Sri Lanka. Following their meeting, Prime Minister Lee and President Wickremesinghe jointly witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on carbon credits collaboration under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
President Wickremesinghe also had separate meetings with Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen and Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu on 21 August. President Wickremesinghe was hosted to lunch by Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam on 22 August, which Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Dr Tan See Leng attended.
President Wickremesinghe will depart Singapore this evening.
