President Halimah Yacob was received by His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the Kuksaroy Palace today. Both Presidents reaffirmed the warm bilateral relations as demonstrated in the exchange of State Visits in 2023 following President Mirziyoyev's visit to Singapore in January 2023.
President Halimah and President Mirziyoyev had a wide ranging dicussion on several areas of cooperation, including trade and investment, cultural exchanges, tourism promotion, parliamentary exchanges, education, and counter-extremism. Both leaders agreed that there was scope for Singapore and Uzbekistan to collaborate in the area of inter-faith dialogue as Singapore and Uzbekistan are multi-ethnic and multi-religious societies. President Halimah recalled her fruitful discussions with several Uzbek religious leaders earlier this morning and welcomed President Mirziyoyev's proposal to share Uzbekistan's experience at the International Conference of Cohesive Societies that is hosted by Singapore.
President Halimah and President Mirziyoyev also discussed Uzbekistan’s interest in Singapore's experience in public administration and governance through the Singapore Cooperation Programme and other collaboration with the Civil Service College and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
Both Presidents also discussed ways to further strengthen trade and investment ties. President Mirziyoyev welcomed more Singapore companies to explore business opportunities in Uzbekistan. Both sides also agreed to explore the possibility of deepening cooperation in agri-food export to Singapore.
Following their meeting, President Halimah and President Mirziyoyev witnessed the exchange of four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) [see Annex] in the areas of tourism, culture, security, and legal cooperation.
President Halimah will attend the Uzbekistan–Singapore Business Forum and visit the Academy of Public Administration (APA) later today. She will also be hosted to dinner by Her Excellency Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, and meet several female Uzbek parliamentarians.
