Official Visit by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to the Republic of Kenya, 18 May 2023

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is on an Official Visit to Kenya from 17 to 19 May 2023. He was received by Kenyan President Dr William Samoei Ruto on 18 May at the State House in Nairobi, Kenya.

 

At the delegation meeting hosted by President Ruto, both sides reaffirmed the warm friendship between Kenya and Singapore. In addition to discussing ways to support growing trade and investment ties, Prime Minister Lee and President Ruto welcomed the expansion of bilateral cooperation to include climate change, information and communications technology (ICT), and human resource development. Both leaders also discussed geopolitical developments and bilateral cooperation at multilateral fora on cross-cutting issues such as climate change and sustainable development.

 

Prime Minister Lee and President Ruto witnessed the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) on Carbon Credits, ICT, and Skills Development. The MOU on carbon credits will promote collaboration under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, including not only the exchange of best practices but collaboration on projects to reduce and remove greenhouse gas emissions for mutual benefit. The MOU on ICT cooperation will expand bilateral cooperation to new areas such as cybersecurity and the digitalisation of government services. The MOU on Skills Development focuses on skills development in areas such as leadership and governance, climate change, and urban development. This was followed by a Joint Press Conference by the two leaders.
