Senior Minister (SM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean is in Hong Kong for a working visit from 29 May to 1 June 2022.
On 30 May, SM Teo met Hong Kong Chief Executive (CE) Carrie Lam. SM Teo and CE Lam reaffirmed the longstanding and close partnership between Singapore and Hong Kong, underpinned by regular high-level exchanges, strong economic cooperation and people-to-people links. SM Teo expressed appreciation for CE Lam’s strong support over the years for Singapore-Hong Kong relations, which had maintained a good momentum despite the COVID-19 pandemic. SM Teo and CE Lam discussed ways that Singapore and Hong Kong could continue to deepen cooperation, such as in urban development, public service exchanges, arts and culture, and education.
SM Teo expressed confidence in Hong Kong’s development and continued prosperity under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, under which Hong Kong will continue to benefit from the economic opportunities arising from its close integration with Mainland China while maintaining its international outlook. SM Teo and CE Lam also exchanged views on regional and global developments.
SM Teo also met former CE and Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-ying. SM Teo and Vice Chairman Leung reaffirmed the strong ties between Singapore and Hong Kong, and exchanged views on how Singapore and Hong Kong could advance collaboration in new areas, including in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
SM Teo will meet CE-elect John Lee on 1 June.
