Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan had a telephone call with Vietnam Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on 16 April 2021 and congratulated Minister Son on his appointment.
They reaffirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and Vietnam and exchanged views on international and regional developments. They expressed appreciation for the mutual support rendered amid the COVID-19 pandemic and agreed to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership between Singapore and Vietnam, including by enhancing cooperation to mitigate the disruption caused by COVID-19 in our region. Despite COVID-19, bilateral trade flows are stable and Singapore remains the top ASEAN investor in Vietnam. The Ministers also looked forward to the safe resumption of essential business and official travel between Singapore and Vietnam.
