Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan’s Meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, 23 March 2021

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan called on Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and had a meeting with Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein on 23 March 2021 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

 

 

Minister Balakrishnan conveyed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s invitation to Prime Minister Muhyiddin to visit Singapore for the 10th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat. Minister Balakrishnan said that the Retreat will be a valuable opportunity for both sides to enhance bilateral cooperation in the immediate aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

 

Minister Balakrishnan and Minister Hishammuddin discussed the national vaccination rollout plans in Singapore and Malaysia, and how these could facilitate cross-border travel in the future. Both Ministers underscored the importance of cooperating closely to overcome the common challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministers also discussed the situation in Myanmar and ASEAN’s support for Myanmar’s return to national reconciliation and stability.
