Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan’s Participation in the ASEAN-United Nations Ministerial Meeting

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan participated in the ASEAN-United Nations (UN) Ministerial Meeting (AUMM) on 21 October 2020 via videoconference.  The meeting was chaired by Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Pham Binh Minh, and attended by UN Secretary-General H.E. Antonio Guterres, President of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly H.E. Volkan Bozkir, the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN Member States, and Secretary-General of ASEAN H.E. Lim Jock Hoi.

 

At the AUMM, Minister Balakrishnan noted the strong ties between ASEAN and the UN, and underscored the critical role of multilateralism in addressing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  He re-affirmed Singapore’s commitment, as founder and co-chair of the Friends of the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) Facility, to vaccine multilateralism and the fair and equitable allocation of COVID-19 vaccines.  He also reiterated Singapore’s support for the UN’s efforts in promoting collaboration in cybersecurity and sustainable development, and in combatting terrorism.
