     Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan participated in the Open-Ended Troika Virtual Meeting Between ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom (UK) on COVID-19 on 30 September 2020.  The meeting was co-chaired by Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, and UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.

 

     At the meeting, the Foreign Ministers shared their respective countries’ experiences in responding to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. They affirmed their commitment to stand united against COVID-19, and explored areas of practical cooperation between ASEAN and UK in response to the pandemic.

 

     Minister Balakrishnan shared Singapore’s experience in  managing the pandemic, and welcomed the sharing of best practices and cooperation in vaccine development between ASEAN countries and the UK. Minister Balakrishnan emphasised the need to ensure that our trade linkages and supply chains remain open. He also underscored the importance of multilateralism to facilitate the region’s long-term post-pandemic recovery.
