Visit by Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Tan Wu Meng to Makassar, the Republic of Indonesia, 9 to 11 July 2019

Senior Parliamentary Secretary (SPS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Tan Wu Meng visited Makassar in South Sulawesi Province from 9 to 11 July 2019. The visit was part of Singapore’s continued efforts to expand cooperation and strengthen ties with Indonesia at the regional level.

 

2 SPS Tan met South Sulawesi Governor Prof Dr Nurdin Abdullah and South Sulawesi Vice-Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman. SPS Tan and Governor Nurdin discussed ways to deepen collaboration between Singapore and South Sulawesi as well as to explore economic opportunities in South Sulawesi in sectors such as agriculture and tourism. SPS Tan and Vice-Governor Andi Sudirman discussed areas in which Singapore could step up cooperation with South Sulawesi, such as healthcare and infrastructure development.

 

3 SPS Tan also met Acting Makassar Mayor Dr M Iqbal Samad Suhaeb. SPS Tan and Mayor Iqbal exchanged views and experiences on Smart City initiatives in Singapore and Makassar City, as well as how we can continue to support each other in the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN).

 

4 SPS Tan called on South Sulawesi Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Speaker Mohammad Roem Muin. SPS Tan and Speaker Roem Muin welcomed increased exchanges between Singapore and South Sulawesi, and discussed ways to grow the mindshare of South Sulawesi with Singaporeans and vice versa.

 

5 During the visit, SPS Tan took the opportunity to meet former Makassar Mayor Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto to renew ties and to discuss sustainable urban development. SPS Tan also met media and business personalities in Makassar City and South Sulawesi.

 

6 SPS Tan returned to Singapore today.
