Letter from President Halimah Yacob to President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena

22 April 2019

His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena
President
Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka

Your Excellency,

I am deeply saddened to learn of the attacks throughout Sri Lanka on 21 April 2019. Such senseless and indiscriminate acts of violence against innocent civilians in churches and hotels can never be justified.

On behalf of the people of Singapore, I convey my deepest condolences and sympathies to those who lost their loved ones in this tragedy.  Our thoughts are with the government and people of Sri Lanka during this difficult time.

Your sincerely,

HALIMAH YACOB

Letter from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe

22 April 2019

Dear Prime Minister Wickremesinghe,

On behalf of the Government of Singapore, I offer my deepest condolences on the horrifying and heinous attacks that took place across Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019.

Singapore unequivocally condemns such senseless acts of violence against innocent civilians. That many of the victims were worshipping or spending the holiday weekend in your beautiful country makes this even more painful and shocking. We stand firmly behind Sri Lanka in its effort to preserve its hard-wrought peace and stability. I am confident that under your leadership, Sri Lanka will remain united and find strength to overcome this grief and adversity.

Yours sincerely,

LEE HSIEN LOONG

His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe
Prime Minister
Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
