Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan has written to Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin Jr to extend condolences over the two bomb blasts on 27 January 2019 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Jolo, Sulu, the Philippines.

Dear Secretary Locsin,

I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of lives caused by the bombings in Jolo, Sulu province, on 27 January 2019. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the victims and their bereaved families. I wish those injured a swift recovery.

Singapore strongly condemns such heinous acts of violence against innocent civilians at places of worship. We are confident of the government’s ability to handle the situation and bring the terrorists to justice. Our thoughts are with the people of the Philippines during this time of grief.
