The MFA Spokesman said:
“The Singapore Consulate in Batam was notified by the Indonesian authorities yesterday that Singaporean boat captain Mr Shoo Chiau Huat, who had been detained in Indonesia since 16 April 2016, would be deported from Tanjung Pinang.
The Singapore Consulate in Batam and the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta have been engaging the Indonesian authorities regularly to ensure that Mr Shoo is accorded his due legal rights under Indonesian law, and to request that Mr Shoo’s case be processed expeditiously.
The Singapore Consulate in Batam had worked closely with the Indonesian authorities to facilitate Mr Shoo’s return. Mr Shoo arrived safely in Singapore earlier today.”
