In response to media queries about Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan’s telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the MFA Spokesman said:
“Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson reaffirmed the longstanding and strong relationship between Singapore and the United States during a telephone conversation on 8 February 2017 (Singapore time). Secretary Tillerson knows Singapore well, and has met our leaders given his previous leadership of ExxonMobil. They agreed on the enormous scope of regional business opportunities, the need for a principled collective stand against terrorism, and the importance of continued peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific.”
