Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli is currently visiting Semarang, capital of Central Java.
SMS Masagos met with Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo and Acting Mayor of Semarang Hendrar Prihadi, and exchanged views on strengthening relations and enhancing cooperation between Singapore and Central Java. They agreed that there is scope for cooperation in tourism, especially with the launch of three weekly Silkair flights between Singapore and Semarang in July 2013. SMS Masagos also offered to share Singapore’s experience in areas such as urban development, waste and water management with the provincial and municipal authorities.
SMS Masagos met with Acting Speaker of the Central Java Regional Parliament Rukma Setyabudi and other politicians, and they had a general discussion on developments in Indonesia, Singapore and the region.
Later today, SMS Masagos will meet with the Chairman of the Central Java Chapter of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Kukrit Suryo Wicaksono and local business personalities over dinner.
SMS Masagos is accompanied by a business delegation and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
SMS Masagos returns to Singapore tomorrow.
