Dear Prime Minister Noda,
My warmest congratulations on your election as Prime Minister of Japan.
You take over at a time of global economic uncertainty and as Japan is recovering from the tragic earthquake and tsunami. I am confident that under your leadership, Japan will be able to overcome its challenges and emerge stronger as a nation.
Singapore and Japan enjoy a longstanding and strong relationship underpinned by common strategic interests in the region. Our relations are multi-facetted, comprising robust economic links and cooperation in areas such as defence and culture. We share close people-to-people ties, as illustrated by the outpouring of support by many Singaporeans for your country after the Tohoku disasters earlier this year. I assure you that Singapore will continue to support Japan's reconstruction efforts.
I wish you good health and success, and look forward to meeting you in the near future.
Yours sincerely
LEE HSIEN LOONG
His Excellency Yoshihiko Noda
Prime Minister
Japan
