MFA Press Statement: State Visit of Denis Sassou-Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo,

The President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou-Nguesso, will be making a State Visit to Singapore from 3 to 7 July 2011, at the invitation of President S R Nathan.

President Sassou-Nguesso will meet President S R Nathan and receive a call by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. President Nathan will host a State Banquet in honour of President Sassou-Nguesso. President Sassou-Nguesso will deliver a speech at the Water Ministers' Plenary on 5 July 2011, at the Singapore International Water Week.

There will be an orchid named in honour of President Sassou-Nguesso at the National Orchid Garden on 4 July. He will receive briefings at the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Surbana Corporation Pte Ltd, Marina Barrage and Jurong Island. President Sassou-Nguesso will attend a business networking reception jointly organised by the Singapore Business Federation and the Government of the Congo Republic, to introduce Singapore companies to business opportunities in the Congo Republic.

The visit will see the signing of two contracts between the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and the Congo Ministry in charge of Special Economic Zones for the masterplanning of Oyo-Ollombo and Pointe Noire. In addition, SCE will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Congo Ministry of Industrial Development and Private Sector Promotion for the provision of advisory services on enterprise and workforce development.

President Sassou-Nguesso will be accompanied by a delegation of six Ministers from the Ministry of Industrial Development and Private Sector Promotion, Ministry of Finance, Budget and Public Portfolio, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Energy and Water, Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation and Maritime Shipping, and the Office of the President, as well as senior officials.
