Dear Premier Wen

I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of lives and destruction caused by the earthquake in Yingjiang County, Yunnan Province, on 10 March 2011. On behalf of the Government of Singapore and all Singaporeans, I extend my deepest sympathies to you and the people of Yunnan Province, especially those who have lost loved ones.

I am confident that under your able leadership, the Chinese government will carry out swift rescue and relief efforts and the Chinese people will quickly overcome this disaster. I wish those injured a speedy recovery and hope that the affected regions will return to normalcy before long.
