MFA Press Statement: Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo to India, 21 February 2011

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo attended the meeting of the Governing Board of the Nalanda University in New Delhi on 21 February 2011.

The meeting chaired by Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen reviewed the progress that has been made on the Nalanda University Project and discussed the framing of the statutes as well as the organisational framework of the university. The Board also agreed that the next meetings would be held in Patna, India, in July 2011, and in China in late 2011.

During the working visit, Minister Yeo also met his counterpart, Indian External Affairs Minister, S M Krishna, as well as Rajya Sabha (Upper House) member from Bihar N K Singh, to whom Minister Yeo conveyed an invitation for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to visit Singapore.

Minister Yeo leaves New Delhi this evening for Jakarta to attend the Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
