Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed visited Magelang and Yogyakarta from 27 - 28 January 2011. In Banyubiru village, Magelang, Senior Minister of State Zainul witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Singapore humanitarian organisation Mercy Relief and the University of Muhammadiyah Magelang on disaster reconstruction cooperation following the 2010 Mount Merapi volcanic eruptions. As part of the launch of Mercy Relief's disaster reconstruction assistance, Senior Minister of State Zainul also took part in a food distribution event, and officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an evacuation centre in Banyubiru village. Magelang Vice-Regent Zaenal Arifin represented the local government at the ceremonies.
In Yogyakarta, Senior Minister of State Zainul was hosted to dinner by Yogyakarta Vice-Governor Sri Paduka Paku Alam IX.
