His Excellency Alfadhel al Harthy, Undersecretary for Development Affairs of the Ministry of National Economy of the Sultanate of Oman, called on Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong this afternoon. During the meeting, Senior Minister Goh and His Excellency Alfadhel al Harthy discussed bilateral relations between both countries, as well as regional and international issues.
His Excellency Alfadhel al Harthy is in Singapore for the 9th meeting of the Singapore-Oman Joint Committee, which took place this morning. The Singapore-Oman Joint Committee was first mooted by then-Prime Minister Goh during his official visit to Oman in 2000. The Joint Committee has the objective of promoting greater public sector cooperation and business partnerships between Oman and Singapore. Bilateral trade between Singapore and Oman more than doubled from S$520m in 2006 to S$1.07b in 2009.
In conjunction with the 9th Singapore-Oman Joint Committee, the Singapore Business Federation and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry also held the inaugural session of the Singapore-Oman Business Council on 14 June 2010 afternoon.
