MFA Press Statement: Minister George Yeo's Bilateral Meetings with Canada and Papua New Guinea Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration Samuel Abal on the sidelines of the APEC Ministerial Meetings in Singapore on 11 November 2009

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo met Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon, and Papua New Guinea Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration, Samuel Tei Abal, on the sidelines of the APEC Ministerial Meetings today.

Minister Yeo and Minister Cannon discussed issues pertaining to the G-20 including its future development, and the complementary role that APEC and the G-20 could play in global financial system reforms. The two Foreign Ministers also discussed UN-related issues and Singapore-Canada relations.

Minister Yeo and Minister Abal discussed bilateral relations and reaffirmed the excellent cooperation between the two countries. In addition, Minister Abal briefed Minister Yeo on the economic developments in Papua New Guinea. Both Ministers also engaged in an exchange of views on regional developments.
