MFA Press Statement: Singapore's Humanitarian Assistance to the Philippines

PM Lee Hsien Loong has sent a condolence letter to Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo expressing heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the people and Government of Singapore for the loss of life and destruction caused by Typhoon Ketsana.

The Singapore Government will send humanitarian relief supplies worth US$30,000 to the Philippines. The Singapore Government will also contribute US$20,000 as seed money to kickstart the Singapore Red Cross (SRC)'s drive for donations for those affected by the disaster.

Dear President Arroyo,

I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and destruction to property caused by the storm that swept through the central Philippines over the weekend.

On behalf of the people and Government of Singapore, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the victims of this disaster and their families. Our thoughts are with them in this difficult time.
