In response to press queries concerning the Myanmar Government's rejection of the ASEAN Chairman's (Thailand) Statement on the detention and trial of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi issued on 19 May 2009, the MFA Spokesman confirmed the authority of Thailand to issue the statement in its capacity as ASEAN Chair, pursuant to discussions of the text by ASEAN Senior Officials. At a meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers held in Phnom Penh on 27 May 2009, Singapore, along with many other ASEAN member states, fully associated itself with the Thai statement.
