MFA Press Statement: Prime Minister of Australia The Honourable Kevin Rudd's Meetings With Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong And Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, 29 May 2009

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew separately today. Prime Minister Rudd is in Singapore to deliver the keynote address at the opening dinner of the 8th Shangri-La Dialogue.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Rudd reaffirmed the importance of bilateral relations and agreed to strengthen the cooperation between both countries. Prime Minister Lee expressed his appreciation for Australia's engagement of and contributions to the region. Both leaders agreed to work together to strengthen regional processes such as the East Asia Summit. They also discussed international issues including the impact of the global financial and economic crisis.

Prime Minister Rudd and Minister Mentor Lee had a good exchange of views on a wide range of regional and international issues.
