Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed will be in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, to participate in the International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Economy for the Reconstruction of Gaza (Conference) co-chaired by Egypt and Norway in coordination with the Palestinian National Authority on 2 March 2009.
The Conference builds upon previous efforts to garner international commitment and mobilise resources to assist the Palestinians in the reconstruction of Gaza's infrastructure and rehabilitation of the Palestinian economy. Singapore will be renewing our commitment to provide a special S$1 million technical assistance package under the Singapore Cooperation Programme in targeted areas such as human resource management, information and communication technology as well as public governance and administration. Singapore's participation in the Conference represents our continued commitment to support international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East with the goal of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security.
