MFA Press Statement: Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo’s Working Visit to the United Kingdom, 24 - 28 March 2009

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, who is currently on a working visit to the United Kingdom, met with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband on 25 March 2009. They had a substantive discussion on the global financial crisis, in particular, the expectations for the upcoming London Summit. They also exchanged views on developments in Asia and Europe. They reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between the UK and Singapore in areas such as business, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges. Minister Yeo was also hosted to lunch by Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Lord Mark Malloch-Brown.

Earlier that morning, Minister Yeo met with Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Andy Burnham where they discussed the possible synergies between Singapore and London as hosts of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games and the 2012 Olympic Games respectively. Additionally, Minister Yeo had separate meetings with Minister for Trade, Development and Consumer Affairs Gareth Thomas and Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague.
